DAVAO CITY Jan. 18(PIA)- Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio told city residents to prepare for the thorough activation of the Safe Davao QR codes where they will be receiving relevant information thru SMS.

She explained that the message will be one-way, a system-generated information that needs no reply.

Duterte-Carpio said that the information simply states the fact of having mingled with a COVID-19 positive person on a given duration within 14 days, prods the person to monitor one's health and be watchful of symptoms that point to COVID-19 and the numbers of health authorities to contact immediately once the symptoms are clear to one's body.

"Do not panic, the message only asks the person to monitor one's health and to know the course of action whenever there are changes to one's body and contact numbers to coordinate with health authorities within the 14-day duration," she said.

Duterte-Carpio maintained that the information relayed via SMS messaging through the cellular phone serves as a notification for the person about the moment he was with a COVID-positive person in any establishment on a given day.

She explained that the 14-days signify the period of incubation of the virus in the body.

Duterte-Carpio said the information will come in both English and the Visayan dialect.

She assured to make a formal announcement before its thorough implementation.

Duterte-Carpio also bared that the laboratory donated by the Unilab has already received its authority to operate at the Davao International Airport and can accomplish 94 to 300 testing a day.

However, she clarified that the laboratory at the airport cannot handle the current demand from passengers numbering from 800 To 1,000 specimens a day.

"Free real time polymerase chain-reaction swab tests at the airport continue to be suspended because the specimens from the passengers at the airport number from 800 to 1,000 a day," Duterte-Carpio said. (PIA XI-Joey Sem G. Dalumpines)
