Inter Miami FC signed the team's 2020 Most Valuable Player Lewis Morgan to a new contract in a deal announced Monday.
Morgan led Miami with five goals and eight assists in 23 starts in the side's inaugural season. The 24-year-old Scottish midfielder led the team to the playoffs and finished second in Major League Soccer with 65 chances created.
Miami used Targeted Allocation Money to sign Morgan.
"Lewis is a player who stood out in his first-ever season in MLS, not only for his performance on the field, but also positive attitude and willingness to be a team player at all times," sporting director Chris Henderson said in a statement. "We're thrilled to sign him to a new contract and reaffirm our commitment to valuable players who contribute to the team and proudly represent Inter Miami."
Morgan joined the MLS club in January 2020 from Celtic FC of the Scottish Premier League. He assisted on the expansion team's first-ever goal.
