The Miami Heat have an answer to their question at backup center, signing Dewayne Dedmon on Thursday.

A seven-year NBA veteran, Dedmon played in 44 games (18 starts) last season with the Sacramento Kings and Atlanta Hawks, posting averages of 5.8 points, 5.7 rebounds and 17.6 minutes while shooting 40 percent from the field and 83.3 percent from the foul line.

The Heat faced a Thursday deadline to add a 14th player to their roster.

Dedmon, 31, helps fill a hole created when Miami traded Meyers Leonard, Kelly Olynyk, Chris Silva and Moe Harkless before the March 25 trade deadline in moves to acquire Victor Oladipo, Trevor Ariza and Nemanja Bjelica.

Dedmon has appeared in 394 career games (194 starts) and averaged 6.4 points, 6.0 rebounds and 18.3 minutes while shooting 51.6 percent from the field.
